Can getting a second dog help stop separation anxiety in the first one?

My dog at the moment is only 5 months old. He is wonderful and I, being a stay at home mom, normally take him almost everywhere I go. But there are obviously times when he needs to stay home for a couple hours by himself. This is when he gets destructive. Not real bad but as he gets older it could get worse. Do you think getting another dog could help this? I’ve always had more than one dog at a time. This is actually the first time I’ve had only one. I’ve never had to deal with separation anxiety in a dog but I know it exists. Thanks. Please no stupid remarks or comments. I know how to take care of my dog.
Just in case anyone asks, the one I have is an Australian Shepherd. He is learning obedience and flyball and gets plenty of exercise and attention when we’re home.

How do you help a dog with seperation anxiety?

My 5 lb toy poodle was attacked by a pit bull in January. Ever since she has (understandably) experienced severe seperation anxiety. I have tried everything I know to do getting nowhere. My landlady just told me that she has been flipping out during the day while I’m at work. I really don’t want to have to move…any ideas?

How can I relieve my dog’s major anxiety when riding in the car?

LORNA asked:

My year-old lab goes nuts in the car and whines loudly. He paces and yips and is unconsolable. He is on a soft blanket in the cargo area and can see and hear us. He loves to go to the park or long walks and is better on return trips – probably because he’s then exhausted. He gets very excited when I bring out the leash and jumps excitedly into the car, but starts the anxiety attack as soon as the car rolls out the driveway. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How can I help my Pomeranian with anxiety and stop him from going potty in his crate?

chulo’s mommy asked:

I have 14 week old medium male pomeranian whom I’ve been attempting to crate train. His seperation anxiety is not getting any better. I’ve been crate training him at night for about 2 weeks now and have not seen any improvement. He barks, cries, whines, shake/bite(his crate), and goes potty(1 and 2) every night. Last week I had a family emergency and had to leave him during the day. I felt bad leaving him lock in his cage for such a long period of time so I left him in the bathroom w/ cage door open, pad, bed, toys, and watter. When I returned he shredded the pad into little pieces and smeared his poop and urine all over the floor. I dont know what to do! I’ve tried leaving the radio on low for him, lights off/on, and nothing seems to work. During the day he does very well. Only potty’s outside or on the pads. Doesn’t cry or bark. Any advice on what I can do?

What should I do about my new dog who has severe separation anxiety?

The dog is a one year old border collie mix and has been living with us for two months. He is very sweet and well behaved when we are around him. Anytime we leave our house he starts whining and yelping immediately, he will scratch at the doors to try and get out of the house. We have tried to crate train, use products such as Comfort Zone with DAP, homeopet anxiety drops, bark collars, etc and nothing has worked. We exercise him regularly, practice our comings and goings for short periods of time and he has plenty of chew toys such as kongs, stuffed animals, and bones to keep him busy during the day. Our vet recommended we see an animal behaviorist and put our dog on essentially doggy-prozac. The behaviorists we have spoken with will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $450 to $600. The dog is great but I’d probably have to return him before I could drop that much money on him. He attends doggie day care 2 days a week and obedience class 1day. Any advice would be appreciated.
